Aimon, Sire de Vaudrey contested the rights to the woods surrounding the Abbey de Rossieres in 1180. The Abbott appealed to the Archbishop of Bescancon who decided the dispute in favor of the Abbey. Aimon was angered by the decision and called on his vassals to arm themselves. They burnt and laid waste to the Abbey property. His sons Hugh de Vaudrey and Guy de Vaudrey led their retainers against the Abbey, which they plundered. They brought the Abbott in chains back to the Castle of Aimon, Sire de Vaudrey. Because of the actions of the de Vaudrey family, Pope Celestine III excommunicated the de Vaudrey family and all their subjects. The excommunication only further infuriated the de Vaudrey line and the feud, along with continual plundering of the Abbey and harassment of the monks continued until 1191. The quarrel was finally settled in 1193 when Aimon, Sire de Vaudrey and his wife Ponce ceded the rights to use the woods next to the Abbey de Rossieres to the Abbey.
