Conjecture:

Alletha died sometime between 1851 ( after George W’s birth) and December 5, 1854 when George married Mahala Cummings.

The children of George and Alletha are Mary A., Martha, James S., Arena, John T., Julia, Georgia Virginia, William Silas, and George W.

The children of George and Mahala are Margaret, Benjamin, George (not same as George W.), Jackoline ("Jackie"), Josephine ("Josey"), Thomas (James in 1880), and Charles.

Questions:

George W. is only mentioned in the 1860 census. What happened to him?

Where was Margaret in 1860? She would have been 4 years old. She is in the 1870 and 1880 censuses.

Where was Jackoline in the 1870 census? She would have been 1 yr and 4 months old.. She is not listed in the 1880 Muscogee Co. census, but is listed in the 1880 Harris Co census.

Fact:
In her journal, Sarah Jane Lokey Hamer Whatley wrote of visits with George and Mahala. She also recorded Mahala’s death date on September 6, 1891.
According to the journal, George was still living on December 24, 1893. According to Hilda Ferrell, Crouch researcher, he died on September 20, 1898. Sarah Jane did not make any entries in her journal that month. I read before and after and it appeared that she was on an extended visit to her old home in Muscogee Co., which means she would have been in the area where George was when he died.
