The Reverend Johannes BOND was born on October 13, 1822 in Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany. He came to America in 1850 and settled in Syracuse, New York. His wife, Catharina Kurtz, was from Baden, Germany and she and John had six children together -John H. BOND, George Louis BOND, Edward J. BOND, William Fred BOND, Herman BOND, and Emil BOND. The son John H. ended up in Novato, California owning and operating a newspaper. George and Herman became barbers in Illinois, and William and Edward became farmers in the midwest (Missouri and Kansas). Emil must have died very young. The BOND's also raised four other boys - Gabriel, Louis, Charles, and Jacob WARNER. These boys were the sons of Catharina Kurtz from her first marriage to Gabriel Warner.

My grandfather, William Fred BOND, operated a general store in East St. Louis, IL in 1908. He married Mary Ann MARTIN in 1902 and their children were Walter BOND, Rosa BOND, Helen BOND, Catherine BOND, Charles Jacob BOND, and my father, William George BOND. Mary and seven brothers and sisters emigrated from Baden, Germany to the United States with their parents, Jacob and Rosa MARTIN, and settled in Festus, MO around 1881. Rosa's maiden name was SCHAFHAUTLE.

My father, William George BOND, married Emma Nancy (GREEN) BRYANT in the 1950's and that is the connection to the BRYANT family. Emma Nancy BRYANT's father was Matthew Trewhella BRYANT and her mother was Elizabeth CUMBERLAND. Matthew was from England, the son of a shipwright, born to Matthew Trewhella BRYANT and Nancy Williams BOTTRELL. Elizabeth was from Glasgow, Scotland, born to John CUMBERLAND and Jane SKELTON of Ireland.

In addition to researching the BOND and BRYANT surnames, I am also interested in BROSE, CUMBERLAND, DIRINGER, FIERLE, GREEN, KADEL, MARTIN, SKELTON, TRENDLE, and WILES. Please contact me if you have information on these families, or if you would like more detailed information about mine.

At this time, I think I know more about my brother-in-law's family than he does! It's a labor of love - someday, my niece and nephew will be interested in their heritage.
  • The Behymer Bunch (22 KB)
I put this online for Bonnie Grittman - my good friend and distant cousin. Her Behymer line is colateral to mine, but connects in Kansas with her great grandfather and my great grandfather. Thanks for all your help, Bonnie!
  • The Brose Bunch (7 KB)
My good friend, Dale Brose, has really helped me with this line. We keep each other active in our research, and for that, I don't know whether to thank him or cuss him! I don't mean that, Dale, thanks for your help!
  • The Grittman Bunch (15 KB)
This is another collateral line that hooks up with my great grandfather in Kansas. Thanks again to Bonnie Grittman for all her help!
