"S.F. MCINROY TAKEN BY DEATH
Member of Prominent Tioga County Family Dies Following Operation - Had Been Middlebury Station Agent 42 Years.
Middlebury, Dec. 20. - Samuel Fox McInroy, Sr., 64, New York Central station agent and operator here for 42 years, died Thursday morning in the Williamsport City Hospital following an emergency operation.
Born July 9, 1869, the eldest son of the late Edward and Mary McInroy, he spent his entire life, with the exception of one year's railroad service in Geneva, in Charleston and Middlebury townships. He was considered one of the most efficient station agents on the Fall Brook division.
In 1903 he purchased the Middlebury tannery property and moved to the present family home. For nearly 30 years treasurer of Middlebury township he at all times maintained an active interest in civic affairs. For several years he maintained a coal yard in this village. Mr. McInroy was a member of Wellsboro Lodge, F. & A. M., Crooked Creek Grange, Order of Railroad Telegraphers, Niles Valley M. E. Church.
Married in 1889 to Rose Rockwell, of Wellsboro, his widow and the following children survive: Mrs. Edward Caldwell and Edward E., of Reading; Harry R., of Schuylkill Haven; Galen S., principal at Auburn Consolidated School; Floyd J., of Wellsboro; Samuel F. Jr., Mansfield State Teachers College; Mrs. Merwin Fuller, of Woodhull; Eunice, of Charleston; Reginald W. of Tiadaghton; and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. R. A. Sampson, of this place; Mrs. H. W. Carson, of Slate Run; W. H. McInroy, of Jersey Shore; Stephen W., of Wellsboro; Robert R., of Middlebury.
For the funeral services the nearby school house was opened to accommodate a part of those assembled to pay respects to the deceased. Beautiful floral tributes were a mute evidence of the esteem in which this Middlebury citizen was held; interment was made in Wellsboro cemetery..."
