* The Harold S. Bonner of Texas Home Page*

Updated October 26, 2002

I am in the process of researching the past history of my family, with particular emphasis and concern about the mid 1800's through the early 1900's.

I have first hand knowledge or have found documentation that will generally allow me to make positive identifications of grandparents and great-grandparents on both sides of my family.

Family members on my father's side:

The parents of my father, Henry Anderson Bonner, were the late Charlie Bonner and his wife Hallie (Bruce) Bonner. Charlie Bonner was the son of Anderson Bonner, and Elizabeth (last name unknown). Based on data found in various Census Reports, Anderson Bonner was borned in Alabama around 1838, and his wife Elizabeth was borned in Mississippi on/or about 1850.

Hallie Bruce was the daughter of Henry Bruce and his wife Ellen Briggs. While it is known that my grandmother Hallie Bruce lived in Waxahachie, Texas, there is no evidence as to whether her parents were borned in Texas.

Family members on my mother's side:

My mother was the daughter of the late Walter Scott Turner and Sara Ann Spears. According to some first hand accounts and available Census Reports, Walter Scott Turner was borned in Texas in 1882. There is some indication that the father of Walter Scott Turner was named Scott Turner, but the exact name and/or place of birth are unknown at this time.

My Grandmother Sara Ann Spears was borned in Texas around 1889. Her parents were the late Henry Spears who according to Census Reports was borned in Texas on/or about July 1885. Census Reports also reveal that my Great-grandmother's name was Ellen (last name unknown), and it is believed that she too was from Texas. To date, I have no knowledge or information on the parents of either Henry Spears or his wife Ellen.

It is a known fact that my Great-grandfather Anderson Bonner was borned into slavery in Alabama around 1838. It is also a known fact that Anderson Bonner could not read or write, but was able to amassed an estate of several hundred acres of farm land in Dallas, Texas between the late 1800's and early 1900's. These facts would pose the question as to what type of background training did Anderson Bonner receive from his slave owners.

I welcome any information or input that anyone can provide about these family members.
