1. MICHAEL "BUCH"1 BOOK was born July/17/1740 in Wittenberg, Germany, and died January/30/1813 in Strasburg, East Lampeter Twp.,Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania. He married BARBARA SALTZER November/05/1770 in St. James Episcopal Church rec. Lancaster, PA. She was born April/05/1742, and died December/11/1804.

ICHAEL "BUCH" BOOK:
Michael Book came from Germany. He settled in Lancaster County near Strasburg, Pennsylvania. He is buried in the old cemetery there. Originally Michael Buch, sailed on ship Minerva from Rotterdam to U.S. Buried in Strasburg Cemetery, Old Cemetery.

Michael Buch, now spelled Book, immigrated from Wittenberg, Germany, on the "Minerve", John Speiriers, master, from Rotterdam to Philadelphia, arrived October 29th, 1767. Settled in West Lampeter Twp., Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania. He and wife Barbara were Mennonites. He is buried at Newton Le Fevre Cemetery, 1/2 mile north of Strasburg, Pennsylvania. The Lefevres were Amish who bought the farn where they are buried from William Penn. It is on the North Star Road east of Route 896 one mile north of Strasburg. The cemetery has a one room school house beside it as of June 1995. Only 4 Books are buried there. Michael, wife Barbara, daughter Catherine and baby cb (meaning child Book).Catherine Book never married.

Michael "Buch" Book was born near Wittenberg, Germany on July 17, 1740. He is recorded as a "foreign import" on the ship Minerva from Rotterdam, Holland; John Spurier was ship's master. The ship stopped at Cowes, England enroute to Philadelphia. Michael landed in Philadelphia on October 29, 1767. Michael had learned the shoemaking trade in Germany.

Ultimately Michael migrated to Lancaster County and settled on a farm located near the town of Strasburg in Lampeter Township. In 1770 he married his wife Barbara Saltzer who was born on April 8, 1749. Michael and Barbara are the progenitors of the Book families of Lancaster and Juniata Counties.

During the Revolutionary War Michael Buch or Buck or Book served in John Slaymaker's Company, Lancaster County Militia.

Michael Book is recorded on the tax records of Strasberg Township in the years 1772-1773 and 1782. In "Heads of Families" for the 1790 census Michael Book is listed in Strasburg Township as having the following household; 2 males over 16 years of age, 2 males under the age of 16, 4 females

Barbara died on December 11, 1804 at the age of 62 years, 8 months, 6 days. Michael Book died on January 30, 1813 at the age of 72 years, 6 months, 13 days. Michael was in the Revolutionary War. Many of his descendants were successful farmers and many were Mennonites.
