Joseph Boon III (son of Joseph Boon II and Mary) was born 1752 in Johnston County, North Carolina, and died October 21, 1836 in Johnston County, North Carolina. He married (1) Lydey Powell on March 12, 1779. He married (2) Sarah Bass on 1784 in Johnston County, NC. He married (3) Hester Strickland on May 28, 1794.

He was a Colonel in the North carolina Militia during the Revolutionary War. He was in charge of the prisoners of the time of the retreat of General Gates after the battle of Camden, South Carolina in 1780. He became State Senator from Johnston County, North Carolina in 1787.
