My grandparents were: Carl Theodore Behnke, b. May 28,1844, Mecklenberg-Strelitz,or Cerka-Strelitz, Germany, immigrated to the United States 1871, Rock Island,Illinois. Wilhelmina Johanna Moeller, b. November 8, 1854, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, immigrated to the United States 1870, Rock Island, Illinois. One of seven children and memory has it that she skated on the Kiel Canal as a young girl. Sisters and brothers: Dora Moeller Strate (Rock Island, Illinois); Margaret Moeller Lage (Wyoming, Iowa); Sophia Moeller Kreuger (buried in Rosemont Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois on Western Ave the North Side); Anna Moeller Libbie (Texas); John Moeller; Claus Moeller. Henry William Behnke, b. April 4, 1867, Mecklenberg-Strelitz, Germany was a brother of Carl and the only one on whom I have information. The only description I have of Carl's father is that he was heard referred to by a relative as "John". He was married twice and had three children with each wife. He was lame and died young. There is a reference to a Georgen Avenue, Mecklenberg-Strelitz, Germany, as well. Children by first marriage: Carl Theodore Behnke, Wilhelmina Behnke (Stoehr) of Burlington, Wisc.,Fred Behnke of Sedalia, Missouri. Children of second marriage: Chris Behnke of Germany, Augusta Behnke of Germany, and Henry Behnke of Wyoming, Iowa. If anyone out there is interested and has further information that would extend my research it would be appreciated.
