| I am researching the MATHIS family beginning with Ezekial who was born in Wales and died in Isle of Wight County, Virginia in 1738. His son Edmond (1719-1783) married Mary PRICE, daughter of Alexander PRICE and they moved to Duplin (Sampson)County, North Carolina about 1745.Edmond and Mary were the parents of Rice, who married Civility GOFF in Duplin County. They were the parents of James MATHIS (1786-1856) who moved with his brothers, John and Edmond III, to Bulloch County, Georgia in 1801. James married Rhoda MONK (1792-863) daughter of William MONK (1763-1825) and Jerushia PARRISH (1773-1857). James and Rhoda were the parents of James Washington(1832-1895) MATHIS who married Sarah Jane (1852-1949) WIIIAMS, daughter of Rowland (1812-1867) WILLIAMS and Nancy Ann SWEAT (1816-1908). The name has been spelled MATHIS/MATTHIS/MATHEWS/MATTHEWS. |
