2. EDMOND² MATHIS (JAMES EZEKIEL¹) was born Abt 1719 in Wales, and died 1783 in Duplin (Sampson) Co., NC. He married MARY PRICE Abt 1740 in Isle of Wight Co., VA.

Notes
Edmond Mathis was born in Wales and came to Isle of Wight Co., VA in 1719/20 as an infant with his family. He married Mary Price, daughter of Alexander Price about 1740. In January, 1745 he sold 135 acres of land on the Nottaway River to Nathanial Ridley and he and Mary moved to Duplin Co., North Carolina. Over the years he aquired a large amount of land and built a plantation on the Six Runs, a branch of the Black River.
Edmond served in the Revolutionary War under Capt. Turner's Co. of North Carolina Militia, enlisting on April 25, 1776. His homeplace was used as a muster-ground for training troops. He was discharged on August 10, 1778.
He was commissioned Nov. 29, 1766 as Justice of the Peace and served for several years in that office.
Edmond died April 18, 1783 and Mary about 1805. They are buried on their homeplace in Sampson Co.
