BIOGRAPHY:
                                  John Bost son of Johannes Bast

 John Bost, second son of Johannes and Susannah Catharina Bast, was born
in Bucks Co., PA 8/23/1743, baptized 10/1743 in Williams Township
Congregation Lutheran Church.  In the fall of 1754 the Bast family
migrated to now Cabarrus Co., NC settling on Adams Creek in a community of
other Germans.  Later the name Bast was Anglicized to Bost.  Research
proves that this is the only Bost family in NC, all who trace their Bost
lineage to NC are descendants of Pioneer Johannes Bast.

     John married Catreena Shuford who was the daughter of John Shuford of
Catawba County.  He was a soldier in the American Revolution.  His four
brothers William, Elias, Jacob and George also had service in the
Revolution, and their graves have been so marked.

     In May 1778, John attended the sale to settle his fathers's estate
and he is listed as an heir.  He obtained two land grants.  The first was
on Adams Creek just south of the Rowan County line, which was later deeded
to his son, Conrad.  In 1790, he was living on the second grant not far
from his brother William in Catawba County.  He and Catreena had ties in
both Catawba and Cabarrus counties.  Cabarrus Court records establish 1793
as the year of his death, when only fifty years of age.  Catreena likely
died about 1797/8.  Their graves have not been found.  Organ Lutheran is
the only church with extant records indicating John was a member.  Because
of the early deaths of John and Catreena, their children were scattered
while young.

     Conrad: Married first in Rowan buy his wife and infant son died
within a year.  He then moved permanently to Catawba Co. and married his
cousin, Catherine Bost.

  *  John Jr.: Apprenticed by Cabarrus Co. Court after his father's death.
 He married Rachel Lipe in Cabarrus Co. but lived in Rowan Co. near
Lutheran Chapel.  They had 12 children.

     George:     reared by uncles George and Jacob.
     Catharina:  named for grandmother, reared by Bost or Shuford
       kin.  Married 1809 and moved to Warren Co., TN
     Jacob:      Orphan apprenticed by Cabarrus Court.  Migrated
       to Hardin Co., TN
     Elizabeth:  orphan placed by court in 1798.
     David:      born around time of father's death, reared by  Bost or
Shuford kin.  Married in 1814.  Migrated  to TN and then GA
