Notes for Ira Lee Maxwell:
The following is from the notes of Dick Maxwell pertaining to Maxwell/Brunner family history: "This paragraph is my own belief of the early family. Both were from the southwestern part of Indiana and eastern Illinois; Greene, Sullivan, and Washington counties, and the towns of Linton, Dugger, and Sullivan. They were possibly subsistance type "farmers" but worked primarily in the coal mines of the area. I further believe that the Maxwell family came through a southern migration from Georgia through Tennessee and Kentucky. Dad had mentioned a few times that during his youth others referred to them as "Hillbillies". I would take this to mean that they were not native Hoosiers and that it was a possible reference to Kentucky."
