I am currently working on proving my entire Bottoms line. I discovered about a year ago, that our surname was originally Longbottom. My earliest ancestor is William Longbottom who died circa 1733 in Surry County, Virginia. William and his wife, Jane Jones Longbottom, had five sons: Samuel who moved to Edgecombe County (later became part of Nash County), North Carolina, Thomas, who moved to Granville County, North Carolina (Both he and Samuel owned land in Granville), Jones (also known as John), who moved to Northampton County, North Carolina (John eventualy moved back to Brunswick County, Virginia but his children remained in North Carolina), James, whose son, Joseph (not proven), moved to Wilkes County, North Carolina, and William (my line), who remained to take care of the family land in Surry(later became Sussex). Most of the families dropped the Long, not so much on their own, but due to Court Clerks' errors in making the Long a middle name. This led to all but the Wilkes County family to drop the Long and eventually the "s" was added to most, if not all of the remaining families.

I am trying to also prove the parentage of Benjamin D. LOVELESS, my wife's lineage, who was born in SC and whose father is believed to be William LOVELESS. If you have any information that would help me please feel free to contact me. I have tried to make sure all my information is as accurate as possible. There is a place or two that I have taken a small liberty for informational purpose that I hope to prove.

If you find any information that you find to be incorrect, please feel free to contact me. My goal is to have as complete and accurate genealogical database as possible.

I am researching primarily the following lines: LONGBOTTOM/BOTTOM/BOTTOMS, BOYETT, CAGLE, CHAMBERS, COOPER, HODGES, JONES, KEATHLEY, KELLY, LOVELACE, MANN, PETTIT, & WELCH. I have placed my information on a private password protected site. Feel free to contact me regarding any of these surnames and if we match, I will provide you with the capability of viewing the data.
