1. WILLIAM² BARNETT (BARNETT¹) was born 22 Mar 1814 in Tennessee (Source: Barnett Family History by B. D. Barnett), and died 06 Mar 1884 in Norwood (Wright Co.) Missouri (Source: Tombstone, has family stone and Military stone.). He married MARGARET JANE SANDERS Abt. 1839 in Arkansas, daughter of PETER SANDERS and MARCHIAL TARBUTTON.

THE BARNETT CLAN--by B. D. BARNETT
William Barnett was born March 22, 1814 near Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was the youngest of eleven children. His father died when he was 15 years old and his mother was married a year later to a man named Quarrels. Young William did not get along with his step-father and he left home within a year of his mother's re-marriage, riding horse-back to Tennessee, where he fell in with a man named Peter Sanders. William lived with them and they moved to Arkansas a couple of years later. Peter Sanders homesteaded a farm near Crowley Ridge in Greene Co., Arkansas.

In 1839 William fell in love with Peter's youngest daughter, Margaret Jane. Peter objected to their marriage because William was 10 years older than Margaret Jane, so the young couple eloped to an adjoining county, Margaret Jane riding behind William on horseback. After they were married they returned to Crowley Ridge and received the family blessing. They set up housekeeping and on 23 Apr 1845 a daughter was born to them whom they named Sarah Louisa. On 5 Feb 1847 another daughter was born whom they named Nancy Catherine. They moved to Wright County, Missouri a year later, homesteading 160 acres on Clark's Creek, 5 miles NW of what is now Norwood, Missouri. On this place there was a very cold spring of water, near which they built their house.

Peter Sanders had another daughter named Sally and a son named Matt, both of whom moved to Wright Co., following William and Margaret. Sally married Uncle Sam McKinley, who homesteaded a place 2 miles West. Matt Sanders homesteaded a place on Whetstone Creek 5 miles NE.

William Barnett was a comparatively wealthy man in his day. He acquired land around him in sufficient quantity to give each of his children 80 acres. They all lived on the land he gave them except Michel and the settlement was known as "BARNETT TOWN".

To the union of William Barnett and Margaret Jane Sanders were born 8 children. 1. Sarah Louisa; 2. Nancy Catherine; 3. Andrew Jackson; 4. John Forrest; 5. William Randell; 6. Peter; 7. Michel Priscilla; 8. Margaret Jane (Peggy).

This is the end of B. D. BARNETT'S history. I, Dawna Frisk Bouchard, am descended from William and Margaret Jane thru their son William Randell Barnett. Having checked marriage records in all surrounding counties, in Arkansas, I have been unable to find a marriage record for William and Margaret Jane. They lived in Cache township in Greene Co., Arkansas, at the time of their marriage. In the original history by B. D. BARNETT Nancy Catherine was listed as first born.

Peter Sanders also went to Wright County. He is listed there in 1860 with his wife Marchell Tarbutton Sanders. They had 15 children.

William and Margaret Jane are buried in Curtis Cemetery near Norwood, Wright Co., Missouri, as are sons William Randell and Andrew Jackson BARNETT, and daughtlers Sarah & Nancy. Peter Sanders BARNETT and part of his family are buried in Thomas Cemetery near Norwood.

William Barnett is listed as paying taxes in Greene Co., Arkansas in 1838 & 1840. US Census 1840 in Green Co., Arkansas, 1850, 60, 70, and 80 he is listed in Wright Co., Missouri. His widow is listed in the 1900 Wright Co., Missouri Census living with son Andrew. This Census says Margaret SANDERS BARNETT had 11 children, 6 living in 1900.
