Notes for William Jones:
3. WILLIAM2 JONES (Nathaniel1) was born in Ipswich October 31, 1707. He married Joanna Lord, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Potter) Lord, October 13, 1729. He died in November, 1782.

He was a felt-maker and hatter, and acquired a large property, which he lost in his old age "by endorsing the paper of a friend, who proved to be a rogue." The house, opposite the Town Hall, which he built in 1728, remained the home of his descendants until 1881. Therein he entertained Rev. George Whitefield when that distinguished evangelist visited Ipswich, and Mr. Jones, who was very devout, was often called "Whitefield's New Light." His pew in the new meetinghouse of the first parish, purchased in 1749, remained in the family until 1846, when the building was demolished.

Mr. Jones' grandchildren remembered his "scrupulous care in demeanor, language and dress." The latter habitually consisted of a velvet coat, knee breeches, silver shoe and knee buckles, a gold-headed cane, and doubtless one of the three-cornered hats of his own manufacture.??

  Notes for Joanna Lord:
Who are the Parents of Joanna Lord?
Joanna was the great great grandmother of our William Thurston Boutwell.
Sarah Kimball Boutwell has listed Thomas Lord born in and Alice Rand as Joanna's parents.
There were apparently a number of Thomas Lords about and these two were married in 1660. Their antecedents are well documented as well as their descendants. Joanna is not among them. They were:
i. Alice Lord, b. April 16, 1661, Ipswich, Essex, MA
ii. Thomas Lord, b. 1663;
iii. Mary Lord, b. October 30, 1666, Charlestown, Suffolk, Ma
iv. Nathaniel Lord, b. October 30, 1666, Charlestown, Suffolk, Ma
v. Elizabeth Lord, b. August 23, 1668, Charlestown, Suffolk, Ma
vi. Benjamin Lord, b. September 25, 1670, Charlestown, Suffolk, Ma
vii. Joseph Lord, b. September 25, 1670, Charlestown, Suffolk, Ma
viii. Joseph Lord, b. June 23, 1672, Charlestown, Suffolk, Ma
ix. Abigail Lord, b. July 21, 1674, Charlestown, Suffolk, Ma
However, the antecedents don't match. Joanna's father would have been born about 1690 to 1670 or so. Thomas Lord is the son of Robert Lord born in 1633. The Robert Lord listed as the grandfather of Joanna was born in 1626 and is definitely not the father of this Thomas. He might still be the grandfather if I can make the connection.

Children of William Jones and Joanna Lord are:
  i.   William Jones, born 1731; died Unknown.
ii.   William Jones, born 1732; died Unknown.
  iii.   Joanna Jones, born 1733.
iv.   Mary Jones, born 1734; died Unknown; married James Thurston 1756; born Unknown; died Unknown.
  v.   Joanna Jones, born 1736.
  vi.   Abigail Jones, born 1740.
  vii.   Sarah Jones, born 1742.
  viii.   Thomas Jones, born 1743.
  ix.   Nathaniel Jones, born 1745.
  x.   Daniel Jones, born 1747.
  xi.   Samuel Jones, born 1749.
18 xii.   Dr. Benjamin Jones, Sr, born 13 August 1751 in Ipswitch, MA; died 12 January 1819 in Lyndeborough, New Hampshire; married Elizabeth Cleaves 6 May 1773 in Beverley, Essex, MA.
xiii.   Joseph Jones, born 13 August 1751.

      38. Joshua Cleaves114, born 2 February 1723/24 in Beverley, Essex, MA; died Unknown. He was the son of 76. Dr. Benjamin Cleaves and 77. Rebecca Conant. He married 39. Elizabeth Putnam 26 February 1746/47 in Beverley, Essex, MA.

      39. Elizabeth Putnam, born 19 November 1728; died 1786 in Beverley, Essex, MA. She was the daughter of 78. Capt. Jonathan Putnam II and 79. Elizabeth Putnam.

Child of Joshua Cleaves and Elizabeth Putnam is:
19 i.   Elizabeth Cleaves, born 20 October 1752 in Ipswitch, MA; died 6 June 1819 in Lyndeborough, New Hampshire; married Dr. Benjamin Jones, Sr 6 May 1773 in Beverley, Essex, MA.

      40. Thomas Barnes115, born 1722 in Hingham, MA; died Unknown in Bedford MA?. He was the son of 80. John Barnes I and 81. Elizabeth Vinton. He married 41. Rachel Barrett Abt. 1744.

      41. Rachel Barrett, born 17 February 1722/23 in Chelmsford, Middlesex, Mass 116; died Unknown. She was the daughter of 82. Thomas Barrett and 83. Racheal Burge.

Notes for Thomas Barnes:
Apparently the first to settle in New Hampshire (in Merrimack). For reasons
unknown did not claim his father's land to the North in Bedford, but his
son, Asa, did.
Sarah Kimball Boutwell's Geneology has Rachel Barrett (b 1699 Chelmsford, MA) and Thomas Barnes(1700 Hingham, MA; 1748 Bedford, NH) the parents of Asa Barnes (b 1746 Bedford, NH).
      Several problems arise with this:
1) Asa is the first born, all other children would have been posthoumous. No other marriage is known.
2) Lots of Thomas's about
3) A better candidate for Thomas exists in the LDS database, born 1722 son of John (born 1685) rather than John ( born 1643). Both are descendants of Rowland Barnes. The Rowland Barnes geneology supports this lineage.

  Notes for Rachel Barrett:
Sarah Kimball Boutwell's Geneology has Rachel Barrett (b 1699 Chelmsford, MA) and Thomas Barnes(1700 Hingham, MA; 1748 Bedford, NH) the parents of Asa Barnes (b 1746 Bedford, NH).
      Several problems arise with this:
1) Asa is the first born, all other children would have been posthoumous. No other marriage is known.
2) Lots of Rachels about.
3) A better candidate for Rachel exists in the daughter of Thomas Barrett & Rachel Burge (b 1722 in Chelmsford, d ?) discovered in the LDS geneology. The SKB candidate is about 20 years older at the time of her marriage and first confinement.
4) The SKB parents (Jonathan Barrett and Abigail Weston) are about the same age but live in Malden not Chelmsford wher bothe databases agree that Rachel was born.
5) Rachel is named for her mother and grandmother in the LDS database.
See notes re Thomas Barrett.

Children of Thomas Barnes and Rachel Barrett are:
20 i.   Asa Barnes, born 9 November 1746 in Merrimack, New Hampshire; died 9 February 1826 in Bedford, NH; married Esther Richardson Bef. 1770 in Woburn, MA.
ii.   Thomas Barnes, born Abt. 1750.
iii.   Sarah Barnes, born Abt. 1754 in Merrimack, New Hamps; died Unknown.
iv.   Lydia Barnes, born Abt. 1756 in Merrimack, New Hamps; died Unknown.
  v.   Hannah Barnes, born Abt. 1758 in Merrimack, New Ham; married Benjamin Sprague 1776 in Merrimack, NH; born Unknown; died Unknown.
  Notes for Hannah Barnes:
Notes for HANNAH BARNES:
Hannah is reported to have lived over 80 years. For most of her later years
she was known as "Aunt Sprague". She is reported to have acted as an "angel
of mercy" in an era and country where doctors were few and far. Aunt Sprague
would leave her home at any hour, in any weather to heed a summons to a sick
bed. She had a way about her that inspired confidence and soon became much
in demand. Hanna died peacefully, herself, not knowing the illness that
inflicted others. (Taken from the 1903 "History of Bedford")

vi.   Betsey Barnes, born Abt. 1760 in Merrimack, New Hamp; died Unknown.
vii.   John Barnes, born Abt. 1762 in Merrimack, New Hamps.
viii.   Cornelius Barnes, born Abt. 1765 in Merrimack, New Hampshire; died Unknown; married Abigail; born Unknown; died Unknown.
