DAUGHTERS. HE MOVED TO McCOOL FROM ABBEVILLE WITH OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS, PERHAPS BEFORE THE CI VIL WAR. HE ENLISTED IN THE CONFEDERATE ARMY 1 AUGUST 1862 AND WAS TAKEN PRISONER ABOUT 20 D ECEMBER 1863. HE AND HIS WIFE ARE BURIED IN BEULAH CEMETERY NEAR WEIR IN CHOCTAW COUNTY, MS.

Addendum 16 March 1999 From Billie L. Bowie: John and Elizabeth built tdheir home on the Att ala and Winston County line about one half milke south of Tibby Creek. That part of Winston C ounty is now part of Choctaw County. They were charter members of Beulah Baptist Chrsch nea r Weir, Choctaw County, MS.

Arminda Meggs was known in most records as Mays until Gwen Rosamond Forrester of Henderson, A rkansas discovered a marriage certificate in Tuscaloosa, Alabama Records Office giving her na me as Meggs. Gwen has her death certificate which seems to read Mages/Mayes, but the marriag e record can be relied upon as a more accurate record of her name. She was the daughter of Re v. John Meggs and Charity Lassiter. They met in Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa, AL, USA and marrie d there. According to census records five of their children were born in Alabama: Charity, G eorge W., Isaac P., Geminia, and Nancy L. James and his family moved to Choctaw County, Miss issippi between 1858 and 1860. They are shown in the l860 census in Township 19, Pigeon Roos t Post Office. James and Arminda lived most of their lives near Chester, Ackerman, and Weir , in Choctaw County, MS. They were farmers. The 1880 Census shows James Price and Arminda B owie were living next door to their daughter Nancy L. Bowie and her husband Thommy Neuton Ros amond and their children. The 1900 census is incorrect since it shows James' name as Joseph P . Bowie, as father-in-law. It has been proven that his name was James, not Joseph. Other cens uses has him as James. He is mentioned in the will of his maternal grandfather, John Hodges , Jr., as James Bowie. His marriage license says James P. Bowie married Arminda Meggs. Also , the 1900 census, dated 15 June 1900, shows Arminda Meggs Bowie living with her daughter, El len Bowie and her husband, Thomas (James Thomas "Jim Tom") Rosamond. Arminda is listed as mot her-in-law, born August 1838, in Alabama, age 61, mother of 12 children with 10 living. Nanc y L. Bowie Rosamond's death certificate states that her father was Price Bowie and her mothe r was Arminda Meggs. Informat was Nancy's daughter, Pearl Rosamond Rushing. - This data obta ined from Gwen Rosamond Forrester of Henderson, Arkansas. Address: 11 Norfork Lake Trail, zi p 72544.

Addendum 31 January 1999: In an e-mail from Gwen Forrester to Everette Bowie dated 25 Januar y, 1999 she attempeted to clear up record errors as follows: "The 1900 Choctaw County Censu s states tha Arminda was born 1838 and was age 61. This date can't be right. Of she was bor n in 1838 and married in 1848 (her marriage record states 1848), she would have been only 1 0 years old when she married. One the 1860 Choctaw County Census it states she was 29, so th at would make her birth date 1831. The 1870 Census shows her age as 39, and the 1880 censu s indicates age 50, making her date of birth 1830. This is more like it. She would have bee n age 17 when she married in 1848. So that is why I used August 1831 as her date of birth an d not 1838." Everette Bowie has changed his record to reflect the date of birth as August 1 831 to comply with the census record and the marriage record.
