Calvin Eudgene Bowie was born in the Gilgal Church section of Abbeville County,
SC near Due West. Like his brothers he was a farmer, sawmill operator, and
mechanic. In the early days of the automobile he was among the first automobile
mechanics in his locality. He was a lifelong Methodist and member of Gilgal
Methodist Church. He was killed in a sawmill accident on 25 April, 1924 in
Washington County, GA. His glove caught in the carriage headblock and the
reversing carriage pulled him across the saw completely severing his body. He
is buried beside his wife, Una Lucille Sharpe Bowie in Gilgal Methodist Church
Cemetery, Due West, Abbeville County, SC. -Courtesy G. Henry Bowie in "Where

Robert Sharpe Bowie volunteered for military service during WW II while
attending Erskine College. He was a tail gunner on a B-17 bomber. Robert
was killed in a plane crash near Lake Melville, Goose Bay, Labrador 18 April
1944. He rose to the rank of Sergeant, service number 14124957. He is buried
in Gilgal Methodist Church Cemetery, Due West, Abbeville County, SC.

AND MARGARET ANN MCCOWN. IT IS POSSIBLE SINCE HE WAS EMPLOYED HE WAS LIVING
APART FROM THE FAMILY, AND SINCE NO SPOUSE WAS LISTED AND HE WAS 19 YEARS OLD
AT THE TIME HE PROBABLY HAD NOT MARRIED AT THAT TIME. A NOTATION ON THE CENSUS
TRACT INDICATED A FLETCHER GIBBONS LIVED ON THE PREMISES AND WORKED AS A
SERVANT (CENSUS OF 1880).

3/22/95: DATA IN "THE MARYLAND BOWIES" INDICATE ROBERT JOHNSON BOWIE
WAS MAYOR OF MCCOOL. MS. AND WAS MURDERED IN 1896.

8/10/96: According to G. Henry Bowie in Where The Brambles Bloom, Robert
Johnson Bowie was serving as a Magistrate's Constable in McCool, MS when, in
1896, he attempted to arrest a drunk on the street. While taking him into
custody, a friend of the drunk shot him in the back killing him. Neither were
ever apprehended. The true story of his position is subject to conjecture. Was
he mayor or constable? That will take some more research. (See page 350 in
Where The Brambles Bloom).

Johnny Rhodi Bowie died when Everette was two years old, and he state s he can recall seeing him in his casket, with many mourners, but not being able at that ag e to comprehend what had happened.
