Notes for William Morrison:
      William Morrison seems almost to appear out of thought, like Athena, because he must. Abner must have a father, there must be a progenitor to the Morrison family centered about Cherryville. Yet when we find him, when his will documents his family, we are left with a man who is sui generis, appearing as it were out of nowhere, out of the mists of the unknown, without a paper trail. Modern life is so replete with paper trails and documentation that it is difficult to imagine the 18th century society which ran despite so many of its responsible adults being illiterate, and with much less regard for documents to establish identity.
      There is an entry in Mecklenburg County Will Book B, p. 64, which may connect to William Morrison. The entry records the will of Niell MORRISON, written 10 Jan. 1781, proved in court, Sept. 1784, in which Niell Morrison mentions his wife Annabella, eldest dau. Hannah STARR, dau. Margaret McKEE, Jane, William, Ann, Alexander, Amelia & James.
