John Hartwell Marable I (son of Henry Hartwell Marable and Elizabeth Mason) was born November 18, 1786 in Near Lawrenceville, Brunswick Co., VA, and died April 11, 1844 in Montgomery Co., TN. He married Ann Jones "Nancy" Watson on July 17, 1808 in Davidson Co., TN, daughter of Thomas Watson.

Senate, 12th General Assembly, 1817-19; representing Montgomery, Humphreys, and Stewart counties. After academic training, studied at Medical College of University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. Maryed, but date and place of marriage and name of wife not determined; one son was J. Hartwell Marable, M.D. Came west and settled in Davidson Co., where he practiced medicine to 1812 (1810); moved to Clarksville, Montgomery Co., where he continued medical practice to end of life except for four years in Congress.
