I am researching the Alexander Bowling family. He was born in 1781, probably in Virginia. He is in Grainger Co.,Tenn. in 1805 and in Lincoln Co., Tenn. by 1810. He moves to Madison Co., Ala. by 1814 and finally settles in Lawrence Co., Ala. where he died in 1843. He married Elizabeth Worthy ca 1800. She was born in Chester Co., SC ca 1782 and is probably the daughter of William Worthy, Sr. Alexander has one known brother William, b 1784 in NC, d 1870 in Hardeman Co., Tenn. He may have had another brother, Thomas Bowling or Boland who died in Haywood Co., Tenn. in 1858. For the past forty three plus years, descendants of Alexander Bowling have been collecting information about him and his brother William, who were born shortly after the American Revolution and spent most of their lives as settlers and farmers on the new Western Frontier. This effort began with Helen Bowling McKnight, who published much of her findings on Alexander Bowling in her book, My McGee and Joyner Families, Pioneers, Patriots, and Preachers and in various issues of the Tennessee Valley Genealogy Society publications, "Valley Leaves". She has also graciously shared much other information with me over the years. Most of the work on William Bowling, Alexander's brother was compiled by Joe Bowling, who also graciously shared it with me. I am indebted to both of them for their help in trying to find the parents of Alexander and William Bowling, an effort that continues today. The brothers are listed as Family Heads 025 and 745 (Fh025 and Fh745) respectively of family "P" in Todd Bolen's book The Bolling, Bowling, Bolen Family in America before 1800. Again, much thanks to Helen Bowling McKnight, my first cousin, who began this effort in 1956 and to Joe Bowling, a descendant of William's, who has contributed most of the information on that branch.

I am also researching the James Henry Darden family of Moscow, Tenn. He is the son of Alfred H. Darden, b 1809 probably in NC, and wife Frances. They moved to Fayette Co., Tenn. in 1850. Alfred died in 1891 there. James H. Darden, b 1851 also died in 1891 in Fayette Co., Tenn.

I am also researching the Ephraim Barnes family. He was born in Maryland around 1774 and died in Fleming Co., KY around 1826. He married Elizabeth McIntyre in Fleming Co. in 1801. He may be the son of Robert Barnes, Sr. of Fleming Co. via Maryland, who is probably the descendant of James and Ketura Shipley Barnes.

I am also researching the John Hayes family of Madison, Co., Arkansas and his parents, Henry and Mary Payton Hayes, of Granville Co., NC and Cannon Co., TN.

Other surnames of interest include McConnell, Parks, Walton, and Joyner.
