Notes for Benjamin Adair: Benjamin Adair m. Nancy (George?): Benjamin named as son in father's will. Benjamin's will Box 1, Pkg 1. I have seen another cite for will. Benjamin 133 1790 Census. Only 3 of 5 sons accounted for, 2 of 4 daughters. Children below in his will. Zadock William John d m. James Jamieson d m. Samuel Bowie Isaac Benjamin Margaret d m. William Craig
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Benjamin Adair who m. Nancy George had 6-7 children, most of whom you have on your list. However he did not have a son James J. (sometimes written as James Jamierson Adair). This was a misreading of Benjamin's estate distribution list in which his property was distributed to his sons and the spouses of his daughters. One daughter (whose name may have been Nancy) was married to James Jamierson. This error has been perpetuated in a number of genealogies. Benjamin's daughter Alethea (1793-1841) m. Samuel Bowie and his name is on the distribution list. You may want to add her name. Benjamin's daughter Margaret (1800-1861) m. Eli Fitzgerald (1800-1849). She married after her father died. She did _not_ marry Elias McNabb. Margaret and Eli are buried in the Old Stone Church cem., Clemson, SC.

I've been working on the descendants of Benjamin Adair and Nancy George (an area that James Barnett Adair's book has mixed up to a degree). I'm now pretty confident I know who they are and where they went (most left Laurens Co.). The following is based on Laurens Co., SC and Perry Co., AL Deed records. The children of Benjamin and Nancy were:
Zadock, who m. 1) Sarah ?Wood? and 2) Sarah Kelly William who m. Elizabeth Robertson Isaac who m. Jane Henry John who m. Nancy Hanna Benjamin who m. Nancy ?Glenn? Sarah who m. William Craig Margaret who m. William Scott Alethea who m. Samuel Bowie Jane who m. James Jamieson
All of the above familes except those of Alethea and John were living in Perry Co., AL in 1833.
Benjamin never had a son James J. This was a complete misreading of Benjamin's estate papers in which the _spouses_ of some of daughters were listed. JB Adair also has Isaac (spouse Jane Henry) as a son of Elisha. Wrong again. Isaac and Jane signed powers of attorney in Perry Co. giving his brother John the legal right to handle Benjamin's estate. (John was the only family member still residing in Laurens Co., in 1833).
