John B. Boyett is the earliest ancestor that I have been able to document in my lineage. He first appears in Columbus County, North Carolina in the 1820 U. S. Federal Census. He later migrated, in 1831, with his family into Georgia probably looking for good farmland. John served in the War of 1812.

Georgia is the only state in the nation which did not initially sell land as it became available. The land was distributed in a number of Land Lotteries. Each lottery had different guideline for which an individual could "draw" land. Often these people were vetrans of wars, or widows and orphans of vetrans. Much of the land in Georgia was taken from Native Americans who were relocated to reservations.

In the 1800s as land opened up and people migrated westward Georgia served as a "Gateway" to the west. People who wanted to travel westward were required to secure a passport from the state of Georgia.

Boyet, his wife Eliza, and their children moved from Marion County, Georgia to Buck Horn, Bienville Parish, Louisiana in 1859. She is listed in the 1870 Federal Census of Bienville Parish, Louisiana as Jane Boyd with her two youngest step-daughters Anna and Laura. All three were listed as being born in Georgia.

Nancy Bowls is listed in the household of John B. Boyet in the 1850 U. S. Census, Marion County, Georgia. She in listed below several younger children that were born in Georgia. She is listed as being born in North Carolina, as is John B. Boyett.

In 1830 John B. Boyet's household included a female that matches the age of Nancy.

I feel that Nancy is an elder child of John B. Boyet that has possibly been widowed and returned to her father's home. John T. Boyet the eldest son of John B. Boyet has a daughter named Nancy listed with him in the 1850 Marion County census. She is possibly named after Nancy Bowls.
