| The Larsen and Thormahlen families homesteaded near Bridger, Montana in the early 1900s. Franz Joseph and Margaretha Thormahlen immigrated from Germany in 1886. They settled in Withee, Wisconsin before moving to Montana in 1903. They homesteaded at Bowler Flat just west of the Pryor Mountains. A rock dam was built on Sage Creek to supply irrigation water for the settlement in 1903 & 1904. In 1907, the Bowler settlers lost a water rights case and the headgates of the dam were blown out. The Bowler Flat homesteads were now without a reliable water source and the families had to pull up stakes. The Larsens and Thormahlens settled in Bridger. The Banderobs moved to Huntley Project east of Billings. This page is under construction. Check back later for updates. |
