I am researching the family of William BOYD Jr.and wife Louisa PRICE 1820's-1900's,(my greatgrandparents)...their mothers and fathers,siblings etc.. their sons and daughters 1850's-1880's including my greatgrandfather Joseph BOYD,born in Lawrence Co., KY, Joseph's first wife was Cordelia GARLAND, and they were married sometime in March of 1896 in Martin County Kentucky, though I am still searching for the documents to prove this. Joe and Cordelia's children are as follows: Frank, Edna, Jesse J. and W. Earl. Earl's death certificate is the only documented evidence of Cordelia that I have found so far. My grandfather Jesse James BOYD,son of Joseph and Cordelia Boyd, was born in Fork Ridge TN and migrated thru VA and KY settling in McDowell Co. WV, early to middle 1920's, although he married my grandmother Opal Mae Carroll,somewhere in Kentucky.
Joseph's second wife,was remembered as Granny PATTON of West Virginia, I was told that Granny PATTON was supposed to have run a boarding house for coalminers somewhere around Hemp Hill WV,but not much is known about her. Joseph was killed in a coalmining accident in Bell Co., KY in 1918, about 10 to 15 years after Cordelia died of TB. He died while married to Granny Patton. I am chiefly looking for information on Cordelia, and Joseph's second wife and their families to tie in with Joseph. Joseph and Granny Patton had a daughter believed to be named Josephine and it is believed she resided somewhere in southern WV, possibly McDowell Co.   This picture was taken about 1931 to 1933 in McDowell County WV. On the left are the Earl and Una Boyd family. Child-Loretta on far left with Earl holding child-Kennis Earl. On the right are Jesse James and Opal Mae (Carrol) Boyd with 4 children. The little girl in the middle is Goldie Marie, children in Jesse's lap are Willard (who died shortly after this was taken,) and Wanda Lemay, child on far right is Jesse James Boyd Jr.

  This is my great grandmother on my fathers mothers side of the family. I remember going to her house when I was a small child. It is believed that Granny Carroll was full blooded Cherokee Indian and that she came from the reservation in Fort Blackmore VA. Granny Carroll lived to be nearly one hundred years old.
