Don Boyd's Family InfoUpdated September 5, 2000 | |
| This is MY Family Story: As I have researched the family, I have found many relatives that I didn't even know existed. The earliest known relative is William Boyd, B... 1785 in Virginia. Where I do not know... He is my big question mark. I have not been able to figure out where he was born or anything about his parents. As far as the solid information that I have, it all goes back to Rueben Boyd, b.1811, Hawkins County, Tennessee. This is in the eastern area of Tennessee, east of Knoxville, around the area of Rogersville. Most of the family is still in that area except for the people on the list from the sixth row down. Starting with Vidge Boyd, b. 1861; around Rogersville. The people listed until line 21 with Honerine Boyd, b.1910; are from the area around Lake City, TN. in Anderson County. My direct line is the one from Lake City. When my Father, James Vidge Boyd, b. 1929, died, my Aunt requested that my mother return the family bible. My mother returned it without making any copies of any of the information that was contained in the front. I was later sent a copy of Vidge Boyd's, b.1861, discharge paper from his service in the Spanish - American War during 1898-1899. This was the first information that I found that even mentioned his name. The paper had his place of birth as Rogersville, TN. As I looked around the records of Anderson County, TN. Ilocated the record of the marriage of Vidge Boyd, b. 1861 to Laney Rich. The record had Vidge's name spelled wrong as "Bege". I have found records on Vidge that have his name spelled, Bege, Bige, and Vige in Anderson County. His name is on the Hawkins Co. TN. records as Sanoviga or Sonvige. All these spellings of the same person have caused many problems. They all led back to the same person. Vidge Boyd, b.1861, was married on Feb.21, 1898 in Anderson County. They had a son on Dec. 28, 1907 named H. R. Boyd. This is my grand father Homer Boyd b. 1907. Homer Boyd was a coal miner in the area around Lake City, TN. He worked hard all his life and was eventually killed by what is called "Black Lung". This is caused from the intake of coal dust into the lungs that will build up to the point then in later life you are subject to lung problems. Homer Boyd had three children, on of which was my father James Vidge Boyd. My father was a really great man who joined the Marine Corps at the end of WW2. He fought in Korea during our "police action". He was a aviation electrician that worked on the famous F4U Corsair that was on of the fastest planes to fly during its time for the US. I had always liked the plane from the first time I saw one as a child. The TV show " Baa, Baa Black Sheep" made the plane famous to my Generation. I did not know that he even worked on them until I saw a picture of Dad sitting on the wing of on in Korea. My name is James Donald Boyd (Don), b. 1952. I have been living in Jackson, MS. for 12 years. I have a son named James Christopher (Chris) Boyd, b. 1974. My son is living in Louisville, Ky. I sold my company, Boyd Security Systems, Inc.. We installed and service alarm systems for homes and businesses. That is my family in a nutshell. The bulk of the known family is still in the Rogersville, Hawkins Co., TN area. I do have two aunts. One lives in West Virginia, and the other in Beaufort, S.C. I have really enjoyed meeting the family from Rogersville. Larry Boyd was the first distant cousin that I met there. He and his family are great and have supplied much of the information that I have from that area. His wife Pat Boyd has supplied a great deal of information and I thank her for that. Much of the current family data was also given to me by Janice Boyd and Sandra Boyd of the Hawkins County area. I have not met them yet, but look forward to it in the coming year.
