FROM: The Roaring Twent-E1 Lions Club Magazine, December 1981 Issue of The Genesee River District of the Empire State>:: "In Memoriam" (My notes are in ( ) jb) "Lion Ed Boyce joined the Rochester Northside Lions Club in January of 1952 . He maintained a perfect attendance record during his years as a Lion member. On the club level he held many offices including that of president in 1957-1958. He served District 20E as Zone Chairman, Deputy District Governor and Sight Conservation Chairman. Lion Ed was also responsible for starting the Eye Glass Metal Frame Recycling Program. This program began in 1972 and through Lion Ed's personal efforts many club and district programs benefited via this program. On the state level, he served as chairman of the State Sight Conservation Committee during 1972-1973. In 1973 at Lake Placid, Ed was elected the first District Governor of the NEW District 20-E1. LION ED WAS BORN IN NEW YORK CITY AND GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL THERE. HE WAS AN ASSISTANT EXPORT MANAGER FOR ANTHONY & GIBBS CO.. IN NEW YORK CITY IN 1927 AND LATER WAS PERSONNEL MANAGER FOR PHILIP MORRIS CO.,LTD. IN NEW YORK CITY. (at this time the family was moved to N.Plainfield,NJ - where they lived until their move to Rochester NY in 1947 --jrb) IN 1947 HE ( & his family) MOVED TO GREECE (NY) (working for Hoffman's Appl., building garages with son Tom, and doing TV & radio repair for Charlotte Appl. ) and opened a (TV & Radio) REPAIR BUSINESS (in 1950--first next to Charlotte Appl, then at the corner of Lake Ave and Stonewood Ave.) ON LAKE AVENUE. In (late)1967, Ed ("retired for Soc.Security") closed his business and became the Executive Director of Rochester Eye & Human Parts Bank,Inc., a position he held for seven years until his retirement (in 1973 at age 70). ............ Lion Ed Boyce went to his eternal rest on November 3, 1981."
