McCray, Cole, Rowe, Gray, Walker, Sargent, Zerkle, Pierce

When I was a young girl, my grandma and I would often sit around and go through boxes of family pictures. We would go through each picture and my grandma would explain who they were and most importantly, how they were related to me. As I got older, she gave me pictures of my ancestors and family heirlooms to keep, to the point where today I have all of the pictures that she shared with me.

The McCray family used to have yearly reunions in Saugatuck, Michigan and I fondly remember them. That was the best day of each year for me. We haven't had any family reunions in over eight years now and I have decided to bring the clan together again in the cyber-universe.

I started this journey a year ago and have found it to be very addictive. About the time I am ready to give up for a while, I find some other valuable information and it keeps me going. AHHH!

At this point in my search, I have found my 2nd great grandfather, William McCray, marrying Mariah Mills in St. Joseph, MI, on March 30, 1840. Mariah and the "McCrea" children appear in an 1860 Berrien county, MI census under a different last name (Bishop).The last child born to William and Mariah was in 1848.

William migrated from Canada around 1838 to St. Joseph, MI. He and Mariah moved to Hagar, MI in 1841. On August 15, 1849, William was killed by the "fall of a tree."
