The William Griggs Family Home Page

My family is researching our ancestors in the Darlington County,South Carolina area. My great-grandfather was William M. Griggs,born c.1871-4, son of William(Shave)Griggs, Jr., (b.1813,d.after 1880) and Rachel O'Neill(b.1847,d.1918). We have traced the family through census records to Shave's father, William Griggs,Sr. William Sr,and Clement Griggs(relationship unknown) bought land along Black Creek in 1807. My great-grandfather was one of at least 18 of Shave's children by at least 3 wives. We are unsure of wife#1's name, but two others were Betsie Winburn and our great-great grandmother Rachel O'Neill. My grandfather,Willie Franklin, was born to William M. and Sarah Olivia Howle(b.1865-d.1940)on March 1, 1899.
Our family is also related to the Byrd's, Polson's and Boan's. I would like to hear from anyone who has information on these families as well as the Griggs's.
