1. EDWARD² BOONE (SQUIRE¹) was born November 30, 1740 in Exeter Township, Berks, PA, and died October 06, 1780 in Upper Blue Licks Near Boone's Station, Kentucky. He married MARTHA BRYAN 1758 in Yadkin, Rowan County, North Carolina, daughter of Joseph Bryan.

Edward Boone, who was called "Neddie", was six years younger than his famous brother, Daniel Boone. The two brothers had a great deal in common, although they were very different people. They looked very much like one another. They married sisters, and were very close all of their lives. Daniel often charged Edward with the task of taking care of the family while Daniel was gone into the wilderness. Edward was known as a "peace man" and a family man. He served as a deacon of his church. He loved to sing and was often heard "making the woods ring with some old hymn" as he went about his work.

Edward and Daniel were returning alone from a salt making trip when Edward was killed by Indians. Daniel said that he had left Edward "cracking hickory nuts and watching the horses" while Daniel tracked a bear he had wounded. Edward was killed and mutilated, the horses and salt were stolen. Daniel said he heard an Indrian cry out "Old Boone, we killed old Boone!" And so, Edward who had stood in for his brother so many times, was killed in Daniels stead.
