I am researching the following family names:
BRAGG - TN, early 1800s. In 1936, my grandfather, Robert Joseph "Buddy" Bragg died, leaving a young widow with three small children. His widow, Lola Mae Newman Bragg, remarried and within two years died in childbirth, leaving three still-young children and an infant girl. In those days, many families concentrated on making ends meet enough to put food on the table and they had precious little time to talk about the dead. As I try to piece together the stories of their lives, 64 years later, many questions remain unanswered.
Here's the work in progess: My great-grandfather was Robert Eugne Bragg, born in Virginia, and married twice. His second wife, Eliza, bore at least 8 children, including my grandfather, Robert Joseph "Buddy" Bragg. In the few records that exist about Buddy, his name usually appears R.J. Bragg. In census data, he sometimes shows up as Buddie or Buddy Bragg. According to his death certificate, he was born in Tipton County in 1873 and died in 1936. He first married Oceola (Ola) Morgan and later married her niece, Lola Newman (my grandmother). His father, Robert Eugene (or Joseph) Bragg was born in 1823 and was married to (1) Luticia Bell and (2) my great-grandmother, Eliza Saddler Harwell b.1850 in Arkansas. The family appears in the Tipton Co. 1880 Census book with children: Mag, Amanda, Minnie, Missouri and Buddie (my grandfather).
NEWMAN - TN, early 1800s. Daniel Sr., Daniel Jr. and Will Newman appear in the 1850 census records. James Thomas Newman (son of Daniel) was born 1856, died abt. 1928. Married three times: Margaret Bass, Florence Meldora Morgan and Ada Hawkins. Lola Newman (daughter of James Thomas) was born in 1905 and died in 1938 in Tipton County.
MORGAN - TN, early 1800s. Florence Meldora Morgan and Oceola (Ola) Morgan were sisters; married to my great-grandfather and grandfather, respectively.
DILLARD - VA, NC, TN, MS early 1700s. James Pinkney Dillard was my great-great-grandfather. He was the child of Willis Dillard Jr. and Martha Jane Dillard. Willis Jr. was the son of Willis Sr. & Sarah Brownlow. Willis Sr. was the son of William & Keziah. The Dillards migrated from VA to NC and then to TN around 1780.
DYSON - SC, MS, early 1800s. John Sanders Dyson and Jane Graham were my great-great-great-grandparents. They appear in the 1840 census in SC, then in the 1860 census in Pontotoc County MS. John Sanders' daughter, Eliza, married James Pinkney Dillard.
BEVILL - NC, MS, late 1700s. Alexander Bevill & Anges Cunningham were my gggg-grandparents. The Bevill family migrated from Guilford NC into Pontotoc County MS sometime in the 1900s.
