There was a Joh McDougal, born 26 Aug 1776, Schenectady Co. NY. He went to Athens Co. Ohio in July 1817. He settled in Ames Twp. on the creek that bears his name. He died 1854.

Mazeppa Coates
C.S. McDogall was called to Chillicothe today by the death of his cousin, Miss Mazeppa Coates, age 90. Interment will be in Chillicothe. Miss Coates was the daughter of George Coates who owned and lived on what is now the Athens State hospital farm. Mr. Coates left here in 1849 and never returned to this part of the country. One brother, John Coates, of California survives. The deceased's mother was a sister of the late Gilbert McDougall, father of Dr. McDougall. (Athens County Obituary Book, page 56, 1920-30)
