Word has been received of the death at Allegheny Station, Virginia of the death of Henry P. Coates, better known here as "Kale", occurring June 22nd. He was 86 years old.
Mr. Coates was born and reared here on the farm now occupied by the State Hospital buildings, his father erecting a cabin in 1787 on the site of the boiler house. He served in the war as a member of Co. B, 141 Ohio Volunteer Infantry 1. em;ostomg at tje age pf 39/ Je ;eft jere abpit 1870 sett;omg om Vorgomoa. wjere je jas resoded ever somce/ Je jas tje dostomctopm pf lo;;omg tje ;ast wo;d deer in Athens County. She married EDMUND MUNYON August 28, 1846 in Athens Co. OH., son of WILLIAM MUNYON and NANCY PHILLIPS. He was born November 07, 1818 in VA, and died Abt. 1890 in Curzon, MO..

Notes for FRANCES CARLOTTA "CHARLOTTE" COATS:
The Family Bible, published 1860 by American Bible Society of New York, says that Frances Sarlotta (Coates) Munyon was born on 21 Nov 1822, Dayton, OH.
This was written many years after her birth. Her Bible also states that Edmund Munyon was born 7 Nov 1818 and gives names and birth dates of her children.
The writing is very, very faded and hard to read. This Bible is in the hands of Hester Ann Dyer of Oregon, MO.
Edmund lived in Ohio and moved to Logan Co. IL. about 1868 with other members of the Coats and Munyon family. They settled in Poordo, close to Mt. Pulaski, where they built a log cabin. Sometime around 1889 to 1891 they traveled by covered wagon towards Kansas where some of the Munyon relatives lived. Edmund caught pheumonia and died in Curzon, Mo. They buried him in the Pollock Cemetery (no stone) under a large evergreen tree and Charlotte went on to Forbes, Holt Co. MO. to live with her daughter, Susan. (This info provided by Dollie Deibert, Grandaughter of Charlotte)
Charlotte earned her living as a housekeeper until she died at 12:15 pm on 15 Feb 1924, St. Joseph, MO. She is buried in Forbes, Mo. Her Grandaughter, Hester Ann (Strickland) Dyer lived with her mother and Grandmother Munyon in Oregon, MO. In 1983 Hester said in a taped conversation that she remembers her Grandmother as a fun lovin woman who enjoyed quilting and could cook up a storm. Hester is in possession of the Munyon family Bible and also owns the camel backed trunk that came across the prairie with Edmund and Charlotte.

A photograph belonging to Lois E. Thomas of her Great GreatGrandmother, Frances Carlotta Coats Munyon, holding her corncob pipe, has written on the back: Charlotte Coats Munyon, Uncle Charley Coats sister, Uncle John Coats Sister and Henry Munyon's Mother. I wrote to Eva Belle (Munyon) Duncan Smith in Illinois and asked her:
How do you spell Coats, Coates? Answer: It's spelled Coats.
On the back of Frances Charlotte Coats picture it says siter of Uncl Charles & Uncle John, mother of Henry Munyon. Answer: Uncle Charley was Bessie's father.

He married a frail young girl that is said to have been killed when Lum Mohn in a drunken stupor frightened the horses pulling the wagon that James and she were riding in. James' wife threw the shawl she was wearing over her head and when James got the horses stopped and reached for his wife, uncovering her head, found she was dead.
