Dec 27, 1915, Ohio Historical Society Archives, Vol. 1792, #64134 Death Certificate gives her as wife of Casper, daughter of James and Mary Fierce Coates.

According to the Nye Cemetery book in the Levering Library at Ohio University, Mary is buried next to her husband and son.

Mary Stalder - Aged Woman Passes Away
Mrs. Mary L. Stalder, aged 72, wife of C.D. Stalder, died last night about twelve o'clock at her home on Main St. Mrs. Stalder had been quite ill for the past month suffering from asthma. Her maiden name was Coates and she was born near Carbondale. On Nov 17, 1861, she was united in marriage to Mr. Stalder and they have resided in Chauncey all of their married life. Two years ago last, they celebrated their fifthieth wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Stalder was the mother of ten children, four of who are dead. She leaves a husband, who is very ill at present and the following children, Mrs. George Gabriel, of the Plains, Mrs. Noah Sommers, of Nelsonville, Mrs. Robert Hixson and Mrs. A.H. England of Chauncey, R.C. Stalder of Elyria, and Milo C. Stalder of Chauncey, Twenty-three grandchildren and five great grandchildren, two brothers and one sister, are also left. Burial will be made in the Nye Cemetery here.

Mary Stalder, daughter of Mary and James Coates.......She united with the Methodist Church in early life. She was a kind and affectionate wife and mother, a generous neighbor, ever ready to respond with a helping hand and encouraging word to those in need.

HARLES WESLEY COATS:
Charles served in the Civil War with Co. H, 3rd Michigan Battery, Heavy Field Artilery. He was on duty in Ohio when John Morgan's Raiders stormed Marietta and Nelson in Hawkins County.
In an article in a Logan County, Illinois newspaper dated the first week of April, 1941, entitled "County's Last Civil War Vet Is Not Dead" tells of his service and mentions that he has twelve granchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. At 93 he was mildly hard of hearing, but otherwise retained a sharp wit and carried on lively and pointed conversations. He attributed his physical well being to the abstinence "from any kind of liquor for fifty years, tobacco in any form and coffee."

OBIT:
Charles Wesley Coats, age 93, a Civil War Veteran, who was born in Athens in 1848, died in Lake Forest, Illinois Aug. 6th. Coats enlisted in Detroit in 1864 and was mustered out at Houston, TX in 1866. He farmed near Lake Forest for 50 years. He is survived by five children.

OBIT:
Aug. 13, 1941 - Charles Wesley Coats, age 93, who died in Lake Forest, Ill., August 6, was the youngest brother of the late Mrs. C.D. Stalder, Chauncey.
He was born at Carbondale, and left here many years ago. Members of the Stalder family thought him to be dead as they last heard from him in 1926.
He was a Civil War veteran and for 50 years had been a farmer near Lake Forest. He leaves five children, a nephew, Milo Stalder, and two nieces, Mrs. Rinda Hixson and Mrs. Ellis England live in Chauncey and another niece Mrs. Frances Gabriel, resides in Lower Plains, Ralph Stalder a nephew also resides in Chauncey.
