Notes for L
EE ELIZABETH "DOLLIE" PHILLIPS:
Much of the information on the Phillips and Munyon family came from my Aunt Dollie....Lois E. Thomas
Pall bearers at her funeral: Morrell Deibert, Gerald Litterly, Larry Thomas, Richard Deibert, Gene Deibert, Deiter Kuehn and Raymond Thomas.

Letter by Dollie Phillips Deibert, Nov. 6, 1974:
The Munyons and Coats lived near Akron, Ohio (Wonder if this should read Athens, Ohio) They made wooden barrels and baskets for a living.
On April 14th, 1865 all the men went to the railroad station to see the train go by carrying the body of Abraham Lincoln being taken back to Springfield, Illinois.
My mother, Hester was eight years ol that day.
About two years later the Munyons and Coats all packed and in covered wagons, made their way to Illinois.
They settled one half mile south of Lake Fork, Illinois. The settlement was called Poordo. They built a log cabin, for a living they split rails, worked in the timber and also the saw mills.
I can remember my father picking me and James up under each arm and putting us in a sleigh and going to Grandma Munyon's for a big Christmas dinner. I was about 6 years of age. The men had gone to a shooting match and received two turkeys about 25 pounds each. My mother had baked all the day before and took it. The whole family was there. There was gobs of food and that is the last time I can remember the family being together in Illinois.
The Munyons moved to Forbes, Mo. about 1889 or 1890 went in a covered wagon.
That was the last I saw of the Munyon family. I know nothing of the James Ball family or where they came from, only that James married Amanda Munyon.
Grandpa Munyon was working the timber sawing logs and chopping them up. He had on a new pair of boots and as he was chopping, he cut a hole in his new boots, going through to his foot. He said he didn't mind cutting his foot as it would heal, but not his pretty new boots.
Grandpa was Pennsylvania Dutch and Grandma was Irish and red headed, was a good worker, but had a fiery temper.
Grandpa was a sweet old man with hair white as snow. Loved all his grandchildren and never singled one out.
This is all the history I can give you as I remember. Some of the stories I have heard my mother tell many times....... Dollie Phillips Deibert

Jessie Ellen Phillips:
Died during 1918 Swine Influenza Epidemic. Gave premature birth to her daughter, Jessie Earline Phillips, three days before she died. The baby was taken by Lucy (Phillips) Brooker to their home.
Baby Jessie was born premature (1918) and was small enough that a silver dollar would cover her head and she could fit in a wooden cigar box.
Aunt Lucy wuld keep her between her bosoms to keep Jessie warm.
Letters of the Phillips sisters are posted with the Logan County GenWeb on the internet
Jessie liked to sew and made clothing not only for herself, but for her children, husband and sisters.
When she died, her children were split up among family members but always stayed in touch with each other. My father was very close to his little sister Jessie, and she to him. Neither could ever do any wrong in each other's eyes....Lois Earline Thomas 6/1999
