Donald A. Thomas, 69, of Greenview died at 7:30 PM Sunday, Oct 9, 1983 at St. John's Hospital, Springfield.
Thomas owned and operated Our Place Tavern in Greenview for nine years and was a retired Teamster. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Litchfield, AM VETS Post 179 in Greenview, and the Elks Lodge of North Little Rock, Ark. He was a veteran of World War II.
He was born March 28 1914, in Lincoln, the son of Earl and Jessie Phillips Thomas. He married Margaret Rebbe Sept. 20, 1947, at Alton. She survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Martha Weise, Little Rock, Ark; Jo Ann Harris, Little Rock, Ark; Patricia Critchlow, Houston, Texas; and Jane Fielden, Havana; four sons, John Thomas, Carbondale; Edward Thomas, Greenview; and David Thomas, Greenview; two brothers, Marvin (SHOULD READ: MARION) Thomas, Eugene, Orel, and Raymond Thomas, Lincoln; one sister, Jessie Kloppenburg, in California; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter.
His funeral will be at 10 am Wednesday at Conrad Funeral Home, with the Rev. Stanley J. Swiatek and the Rev. Larry Williams officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery Litchfield. Notes for JESSIE EARLINE THOMAS:
Aunt Jessie was born premature and was so small a silver dollar would cover her head. She slept in a small wooden cigar box. Her mother died shortly after she was born and she was left in the care of her mother's sister, Aunt Lucy.
My Aunt Jessie is probably one of the kindest, sweetest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. She has a very warm personality and a funny sense of humor.
I lived with her and Uncle Johnny for a while after Dad and I came to Oregon at Rippling Water (near Gales Creek and Forest Grove) Oregon. They were fun to be with and alsways made me feel welcome in their home. Uncle Johnny used to tease me about my freckles, and Aunt Jessie gave me unconditional love for as long as she lived. Hello People:
The new daddy just has to write a little to brag about his beautiful daughter. She has the dark curly hair that Jessied wanted. Both are doing swell. Twenty minutes after delivery Jessie was ready to come home, SHE SAID.
Now if yu are able to make anything out of that jumble of thoughts you will know how a proud new father feels.
Here is a laugh for you.
Baby arrived at three oclock in the morning. I was kicked out at about three fortyfive. Started home through the fog and drove through a stop sign. I hadn't taken time to get a drivers license since buying my Ford. Well, the strong arm of John Law grabbed me. I got out of the car and the officer began by searching me. Jessie had given me the cards to mail and he found them and asked me what they were. I explained and he let me go without even asking for my drivers license. I took time yesterday to get it.

When I got home they were gone and I went hunting them. Found them in the post office. I told her we had a baby girl and she spread the news to everyone in the post office.
She didn't care much for a baby sister until it got here. Now it is just the thing. She doesn't want to trade fro a boy. NO Soap.
