This biography will begin where four more children were born to my father (Amos) and mother (Emma). After Kitty M. was born, then Leo came, who died a few hours after birth. After Leo was born the Brandenburgs moved to Ashgrove, Missouri, a small town about 12 miles out of Springfield, MO. ,where they lived in a log-house on a farm. They lived there for 8 years and the last three children were born here. Artimus was born Jan. 19, 1892. Bertie Gertrude was born Sept. 24, 1893. Harry (exact birthday unknown) sometime in 1895.
The Brandenburgs then moved to Buchanan, Texas, where they bought a 212 acre farm, which was lost later for failure to pay off a small mortgage. My father, Amos B. died one year after reaching Texas, in the year 1898. Harry, who was four years old at the time, died the next year. My mother Emma B. died in 1907, leaving two children , Artimus 15 and Bertie 13. The neighbors stepped in, at my mother's request, held an auction sale. They sold cattle, horses and some house-hold goods. The sale amounted to around $500.00 which was divided between us. A neighbor, Mrs. Rosa Stevens, was requested by my mother, to give me a home. I lived with her until I reached 18 years, and then went out to teach school. She was a real mother to me, and treated me as her own.
Artie (Artimus) went to live with another neighbor whose name was Morse. Both families had recently move to Texas from Garnett, Kansas. Artie stayed with them two years and then went to work for a man named Arthur Crump, in the Buchanan neighborhood. When Artie left here, he left behind a large tool chest (made by our father) containing this Biography and some other things. I saved them from being destroyed. Later Artie went to Bucklin, Kansas to live with our Uncle Tom Eskew.
