* My Appalachian Heritage*

Updated August 17, 2007

I have been researching my family since 1980 when I was age 13. My "roots" are well established in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia and North Carolina.

Families I research from Tazewell County Virginia include Billips, Bowling, Bowman, and Brooks. These families have been in about 50 mile radius of Tazewell, VA since at least 1800.

I am also researching the Griffith and Phillips families of Ashe and Alleghney County, North Carolina. They have been in those counties since the early 1800's as well.

About 1900 One of the Griffith men moved to the Pocahontas Coalfields at about the same time that my one NON APPALACHIAN branch moved to the coalfields. The NON APPALACHIAN branch includes the following family names Litchford, Mason, Davenport McCormick and Whelan. These families were all located in Central Virginia [Bedford, Campbell and Amherst counties] until the early 1900's.

In 1998 I married a Bradford from the Roanoke Valley region of Virginia. His family has also stayed in one area for about 200 years. Although I have begun doing some research on his family, most of the information I have is from the research of his Aunt.
Names in this file include Bradford, Blankenship, Graham,Hall, Vaden, Vanover, Garman, Ulrey, Grossnickle and several others.
