I am responding to my own post with new information: Squire Boone, father of Daniel Boone and Hannah Boone, was the grandfather of Hannah Boone's children. Hannah Boone's daughter, Rachel, married James King and had a daughter named Hannah. That was the Hannah (last name: King) who married John Wilson Whisman, father of Andrew Whisman. Andrew Whisman was born in Jackson County, Missouri and died in California. John Wilson Whisman was the son of Philip Whisman of Wythe County, Virginia. Philip was born in 1770. His brothers were John E Whisman, Jr. and Henry Whisman. John E Whisman, Jr. and Philip Whisman both married Copenhavers. John E was the father of David Crockett Whisman, Henry Whisman b 1796, and James Whisman b 1811. Henry Whisman had at least one child, a son, Philip b 1800. The Philip b 1800 married a Henkle and had at the least two sons, John b 1846, and George W., b 1849. George W had a daughter named Maude. The Philip b 1800 d 1880 in Ohio. Maude Whisman lived in Ohio. All the other relatives of Philip b 1770, Henry b 1796, and John E Jr. were named John or James and married someone unnamed or named Mary, as far as I can guess, but my information is limited.

Henry Whisman-Philip Whisman, #106

of 106

My 2nd Great-grandfather was Philip Whisman b. abt 1801 in Virginia. He married Ann W. Henkle in 1840 in Rockingham County. In the 1850 Rockingham census there was a Henry Whisman living with Philip that was listed as being 83 years old. There was a Henry Whisman born in Wythe Co. abt. 1767 but I have been unable to verify the connection. Any info on these individuals would be appreciated. Willing to share info that I have!!

Hello Bob,

I have a good deal of information on different early lines of the WHISMAN line. I have not followed up on many of them as the lines my family was involved in were quite lengthy and varied, too. If I ever put it on the net I will firm of my lines more for sure.

It seems that the WHISMAN males were lusty and had large families with several sons each generation. They also seem to have been independent and several went their own way and did not always keep in contact with others over the generations.

I looked in my data base and find no Sophia WHISMAN in any of my lines--but after viewing your FTM home pages I did see the Meese (MIESS, etc.) line that connected with my WHISMAN information by way of the COPENHAVER daughters Elizabeth and Mary Ann who married in 1795 and 1796 in Wythe Co., VA, two WHISMAN brothers (Phillip and John), grandsons of WHISMANs immigrant father. My line came through John and Mary Ann (Copenhaver) WHISMAN. I do have much of the lines both of these ladiesΠ(and WHISMANs).

Some of the WHISMAN families did migrate west through Lee Co. VA, KY, IN-IL- MO and on to CA and OR.

I have no CROMER listed in my data base, may be in my unrecorded reference files but I have not located same. I do have a Michael SPEAK s/o Mary Jane WHISMAN (b. 1842) and Joseph A. SPEAK listed; he married a Letitia Elizabeth KINSER b. 1874. Mary Jane was the d/o Abram WHISMAN and Catherine SHUPE. Abram was the brother of the two WHISMANs who married the COPENHAVER sisters above.

Now do I have you thoroughly confused! :-D

Arlene Hill
