1. DENNIS¹ CRAMPTON was born Abt. 1630 in England, and died January 31, 1689/90 in Guilford, New Haven County, Connecticut. He married (1) MARY PARMELLEE September 16, 1660 in Guilford, New Haven County, Connecticut, daughter of JOHN PARMELEE and HANNAH BRADLEY. He married (2) SARAH HALL Aft. 1667 in Guilford, New Haven County, Connecticut, daughter of WILLIAM HALL and ESTHER ?. He married (3) FRANCES ? Aft. 1675.

Notes for DENNIS CRAMPTON:
Very little is known about the early years of Dennis Crampton. His birthplace is presumed to be England as it was the birthplace of so many others in Guilford. He probably immigrated when he was young and was an indentured servant or "bond boy" as he took the Freemen's Oath later in life. In his younger days he seemed to be in trouble with the law from time to time. He was arrested and whipped for slander and horse stealing. He eventually became a prosperous plantation owner.

The Indian name for Guilford was Menum Katack. It was purchased from an Indian woman of 29 September 1639. Her name was Shaumpishuk. It was purchased by a group of six men led by Henry Whitfield.

The following from "Genealogical Guide to the Early Settlers of America", pg 112.

Crampton, Dennis, of Guilford, married September 16, 1660, Mary, daughter of John Parmelee, had Hannah, Elizabeth and Nathaniel, this last born March, 1667, and she died on the 16th of the same month. By second wife Sarah, widow of Nicholas Munger, had Sarah, born December 17, 1669; Thomas, November 25, 1672; and John, June 16, 1675; lived some years at Killingworth, but went back to Guilford before marriage of third wife Frances, was living there 1685; and died Jan 31, 1690, leaving good estate. He is the man called by Kellond and Kirk (to whom Governor Endicott had issued warrant for arrest of Whalley and Goffe, the regicides) Dennis Scranton, when they made report of their unsuccessful errand. Elizabeth married 1686, John Lee, of Westfield,as his second wife, and Sarah married John Evarts, as his second wife.

John Crampton, of Norwalk, 1672, was a soldier in Philip's War, had lived 1661, at Fairfield, there married Hannah, daughter of Francis Andrews, and by her had Hannah, born 1662, who married March 5 1680, Benjamin Scribner, or Scrivener; and for second wife married October 8, 1676, Sarah, daughter of John Rockwell, of Stamford, had Sarah, born September 10, 1679; Abigail, August 9, 1681; and John, January 7, 1683.

Samuel Crampton, a soldier of Lothrop's company, killed at Bloody Brook, September 18, 1675.

Perhaps John of Norwalk and Samuel are brothers of Dennis???

Notes for MARY PARMELLEE:
An alternate death date is 16 March 1666/7. Conjecture that she died in childbirth of son Nathaniel. Guilford vital records indicate that she died late in March 1667. TALCOTT gives her death as 16 March 1667.

Notes for SARAH HALL:
Sarah may have been Sarah Hull, in which case her parents would have been Andrew and Katherine. Rev. Davenport baptized her in the First Church on 4 October 1640. An alternate death year is 1689. An alternate place of birth may have been Guilford, New Haven County, Connecticut.

	v.	THOMAS CRAMPTON, b. November 25, 1672, Guilford, New Haven County, Connecticut; d. January 10, 1740/41, Guilford, New Haven County, Connecticut; m. SUSANNA FRENCH.
2.	vi.	JOHN CRAMPTON, b. June 16, 1675, Guilford, New Haven County, Connecticut; d. July 15, 1746, Guilford, New Haven County, Connecticut.
