Generation No. 1

1. THOMAS1 BRANDON was born Abt. 1730 in County Fermanagh, Ulster, Ireland, and died Unknown in New Jersey?. He married MARTHA Abt. 1752 in Ireland?/NJ?. She was born Abt. 1730 in Ireland?/NJ?, and died Unknown in New Jersey?.

Notes for T
HOMAS BRANDON:
Research compiled from various records, as well as Washington D. Brandon's genealogy and the Olive Dickie Brandon diary. (W. D. Brandon cites the notes of his great uncle, Dr. William W. Brandon, the grandson of Thomas the immigrant and had direct memories of his own grandfather John, the oldest son of that generation.)

The oldest genealogy says Thomas Brandon from near Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Ireland immigrated to New Jersey, where he and wife Martha had a prosperous farm. I am unclear if the parents moved on to York County, PA or just John and his brother William left for Pennsylvania before the Revolutionary War. It's possible the parents died and their sister married or died young.
The notes go on to say this Brandon line spent several generations in County Fermanagh, Ulster, Ireland after a time in Holland, and that they originated in England. Some tales link the Brandons to the House of Brandenburg - rather farfetched, to my thinking.
(The knights Brandon came from Soham, Co. Suffolk, England. Suffolk's John Archdale planted County Fermanagh in 1612. Holland was a common retreat for English soldiers and knights on the outs with their current political situation. See the John Brandon b.1662 tree for further information.)
A Thomas and Martha Brandon baptised children William and Mary Ann Brandon at the First Presbyterian Church in Morristown, NJ on February 25, 1759. No other names of interest can be found in "The Record" and Brandons appear just this once.
The only possible connection I see between County Fermanagh and Morris County, NJ is the presence of a Nathaniel Armstrong b.~1742 (m. Rachel Lyon) nearby in Mendham, who may be of the Fermanagh Armstrongs and Lyons. (A Fermanagh Armstrong/Brandon marriage is said to begin the eastern Pennsylvania branches of John Brandon b.1662 and intermarriages continue for several generations in PA and NC.) A Francis Lock isn't too far away either, and may be a tie-in to another early marriage in that Lineage I line.

Notes for M
ARTHA:
It is unclear whether Martha came from County Fermanagh or she met Thomas Brandon in New Jersey.

One of Martha's sons was named an ensign in the Revolutionary War while the other ended as a lieutenant and went on to become Sheriff of Westmoreland County, PA. They must have been well-schooled while growing up in New Jersey.
