Two-car accident kills Houston man
Sweeny-A 74-year old Houston man died in a two-car accident at the intersection of FM 1459 and Highway 35 about 9:50 a.m. Wednesday.
Department of Public Safety officials said that William Branter died on the scene and Eva Porter, 74 of Lake Jackson, who was a passenger in his car, was taken by Lifeflight to the University of TexasMedical Branch in Galveston. She was in critical condition with head and body trauma.
DPS officials said Banter was driving a 1999 Oldsmobile northbound on FM 1459. He was attempting to cross Highway 35 when a 2000 Mack truck, driven by Johnny Chancellor of West Columbia, hit the car on the driver's side, officials said. Chancellor was not hurt in the accident.
DPS officials said no citations have been issued and all people involved were wearing seat belts.
