Printed by Florida Press, Inc. 143 East Church Street Orlando, Florida 1952 Copyrighted 1953 by Azariah Boody Sias, Orlando, Florida Azaria Boody Sias was born on the Sias farm near Spencerport, New York, attended the rural school, the Spencerport school, and joined the Spencerport Congregational Church when Rev. E.B. Furbish was pastor. He graduated from the Rochester High School, the University of Rochester, Ph. B. 1903, M. A. 1922, and Stanford University, Ph. D. in 1926. While at Stanford, he held the Ellwood P. Cubberly fellowship in Education. He taught in rural school, Town of Gates, near Rochester, New York, taught English at Cook Academy, Montour Falls, New York, English at East High School, and English, Public Speaking, and Debating at West High School, Rochester, New York, became Head of the English Department there and vice-principal, and after attending Stanford University, was made Professor of Education, and later, Professor of School Administration and Director of Student at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, which position he held until retirement in 1947. His college fraternity is Alpha Delta Phi. Upon graduation from the University of Rochester, Mr. Sias was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and at Stanford was elected to Phi Delta Kappa, education honorary society, and there served as president of the Chapter. For two years he was president of the New York State English Teachers Association, 1917-19, served as president of the Rochester Teachers Association, and was member of the committee which prepared the legislation for the New York State Retirement System and the State-wide Salary Law,1921-22. In 1927 he became a member of the Empire State Society, Sons of the American Revolution. At Ohio University, Mr. Sias was one of the organizers, in the spring of 1927, of the local alumni group of Phi Delta Kappa, and later served two years as president; was one of the organizers of the Men's Faculty Club and served as the second president; was a charter member of the Ohio University Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, was one of three to write the constitution and by-laws, and later served as president. He was appointed official representative of President E.B. Bryan and Ohio University for the dedication of the new River Campus of the University of Rochester; was appointed by President Bryan as Educational Finance Specialist to represent Ohio University on a finance committee made up of one finance specialist from each of the five state universities to act for the Ohio Association of Boards of Education and Governor White, to determine the best method of financing education in Ohio. He was member of the technical advisory group for the Ohio School Survey Commission in 1932, and of a similar advisory group for the National Survey of School of Finance. He served on the Community Chest Board for the city of Athens, Ohio, from 1931 to 1940, and served as president of the Board for 1936-37 and 1939-40. Mr. Sias was appointed by President James on the Budget Committee for Ohio University to work with him in the preparation of the budget for the legislature, and was appointed by John C. Baker the Chairman of a Committee for the Development of Higher Standards of SCHOLARSHIP at Ohio University. He also served as a member of the Committee on Personnel and Guidance, the Committee on University Bureau of Appointments, and the Scholarships Committee. He served as president of the local chapter of the American Association of University Professors, president Tuesday Literary Club and was charter member and served as president of the Local Ewings Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution. In 1943 he was elected president the Ohio Society, Sons of the American Revolution, and in 1944 served as National Trustee. He has been a member of the Ohio Education Association, the National Education Association, the American Association of School Administrators, the National Society of College Teachers of Education, the National Society for the Study of Education (life member), the American Statistical Association, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In 1943 he was appointed a member of Athens County Board No. 1, Ohio State Selective Service for World War II, and served over two years. In October 1952 was elected a member of the Institute of American Genealogy. He is a Presbyterian Elder. In Orange County, Florida, he taught English 1947-49 at Lakeview High School, Winter Garden, he is a member of the Highway Safety Committee of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce, the Republican Men's Club of Orange County,the University Club of Winter Park and Associate Member of the Orlando Board of Realtors.
