This is Mary Melissa Lachappell Flaharty at 2 years of age. She was just awakening when her mother managed to obtain this unforgettable picture. This was in 1973 in Silver Spring, Maryland. Her mother, Christina Maria Brewer Flaharty has said on many occasions that this is her all time favorite snapshot of her daughter. It is easy to see why she feels that way.
