Margaret Louisa Cardwell (1856-1942) sat for this portrait in about 1894 at her home in Lytton Springs, Caldwell County, Texas. Married to Dr. John Campbell Brewer in 1877, Margaret was the eldest daughter of James Albert Cardwell (1827-1908) and Margaret Reese Watkins (1824-1892).
