Initially constructed in 1870 as a brush arbor for use as a covered shelter in which local and 'circuit riding' preachers could hold revival services, the Lytton Springs Tabernacle was rebuilt to it's current configuration in about 1920. In the earlier years, it was not unusual for outlying families to bring supplies and to camp out overnight on the park grounds; particularly those who had traveled a long distance to attend services.
