Nancy Jordan (1792-1871), daughter of Thomas Jordan (1758-1850) and Priscilla Applewhite (1762-1850), was born in Southampton County, Virginia. In 1818, she married Samuel Washington Atkinson (1797-1872) in Madison County, Georgia. By 1838 the Atkinson family had relocated to Pontotoc County Missisippi then on to Texas in 1851.
