On October 24, 1987, the Harris Cemetery was designated as a Texas Historical Shrine. The cemetery is located northwest of the community of Lytton Springs in Caldwell County, near the town of Mendoza; on Farm Market Route 1854 and about 1 mile south of the County Highway 21 junction. Cemetery restoration, historical registration, and ongoing maintenance, was accomplished through the continuing efforts of Virginia Smith Parker (1916-2002), g-granddaughter of Sidon H. Harris (1820-1861) and Amanda Atkinson Harris (1822-1866).
