My two primary family lines--BRITNELL and STRINGER--have their roots in England. STRINGER is derived from the occupation of fashioning and attaching the strings of bows, much as "Archer" identifies the person who uses the bow and arrow and "Fletcher" the person who fashions the feather. BRITNELL is probably one of those names adopted by immigrants to Britain to signify their allegiance to their adopted country. The information contained in the reports attached to this page is the result of much more than my own efforts; many kindred researchers have contributed or confirmed data included herein. I would be especially remiss if I failed to acknowledge the efforts of my second cousin, Rodney Britnell, whose interest in family history led him to--almost single-handedly--set up, plan, and generate interest in a series of family reunions. His research, which he made readily available online and in person, has contributed much to this data. I would also like to acknowledge the years of research my aunt, Ima Watson Stringer, put in before genealogy went online. I cannot find the words to express my gratitude to Aunt Ima for generously sharing all her hard-gained Stringer research with me. Those of us who can do our research from the comfort of our homes can only imagine the difficulties and frustrations she and her contemporaries suffered. If you are one of those genealogists who insists on hard proof, I suggest that you use my data as a guideline, and do your own confirming. My research contains much confirmed data, some unconfirmed, some from other researchers who claim to have confirmed, and some I accepted because it seems logical. Please feel free to disagree, and let me know if you have conflicting data or data to contribute, (especially data on STRINGER's in Alabama) or questions. I am always open to discussions on the accuracy of my data, and would appreciate your comments or criticisms. I have a thick skin, so fire away! (This data was last updated 05 fEBRUARY 2001) Bobby E.
