In the late 1700's, shortly after the American Revolution, our ancestors were among the earliest settlers to move into North Georgia. The land was owned and occupied by the Indian tribes who had been there for hundreds or even thousands of years. The new pioneers were land hungry and after years of struggle, the Indians were ousted and their sad plight began. We acknowledge the shame of this history. At the same time we have high admiration for the courage, determination and just plain hard work exerted by our ancestors to tame the wilderness. Our Bridges clan spent about fifty years in the Green and Putnam Counties of North Ga. Then, about 1850 they migrated West to Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas looking for fresh land and new opportunities. Now our line of Bridges is back in Georgia. Our research is aimed at remembering the people and their stories so they can be passed on to the future generations of our families. |
