VIRGINIA BEACH -- Retired U.S. Navy Lt. Joel L. Hudson, 77, passed away July 29, 2002 in Hertford, North Carolina.   Lt. Hudson was the widower of Colleen Hudson and Margaret Hudson and was a member of Snug Harbor Community Church.  

Lt. Hudson was born the second of five children in Lansing, Michigan on January 22, 1925 to the late Howard and Berneice Shores Hudson.  He graduated from Riverdale High School in Gratiot County, Michigan in 1943, whereupon he entered military service with the United States Navy.  He retired from the U.S. Navy after 26 years of service where he had served with Underwater Demolition Teams 21 and 22, and Seal Team 2.  He served during World War II, was involved in the Normandy Invasion, and was also a plank owner on the USS Guam. 

He was preceded in death by both parents and sisters Alice and Mary Lou.
